Kamala Harris will be skipping this year’s Al Smith dinner on October 17, a charity event that raises money for New York City’s unfortunate. Every four years, the dinner hosts the two rival presidential candidates, where the two always make lighthearted jokes about one another.
Above all else, the dinner, which is run by Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, is always a brief break from the normally venomous election cycles we see.
But not this year - Harris says she’ll only attend an Al Smith dinner if she wins in November.
While the event is nonpartisan, Dolan took a dig at Harris for the snub. While addressing Harris’ snub, he noted "This hasn’t happened in 40 years since Walter Mondale turned down the invitation. And remember, he lost 49 out of 50 states."
Watch below:
The only other exception was in 1996, when Dolan didn’t invite either nominee because Bill Clinton vetoed a ban on “abortions” of babies that were already delivered. Admittedly, it seems inconsistent that the likes of Hillary Clinton or Kamala Harris got invites given their radical stances on abortion.
