Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott appeared on MSNBC Thursday following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge to sow racial disunity and threaten his conservative constituents.
In response to supposedly âracistâ people who claim he is a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) mayor, Scott told MSNBC host Joy Reid, âMe being at my position means that their way of thinking, their way of life of being comfortable while everyone else suffers is going to be at risk and they should be afraid because thatâs my purpose in life.â
What does Scott mean when he says itâs his âpurpose in lifeâ to make conservatives âafraidâ and to put their âthinkingâ and âway of lifeâ at risk?
Itâs unclear.
Whatâs also unclear is why, in the wake of a traumatizing disaster, Scott thinks itâs appropriate to divisively threaten a subset of his Baltimore constituents and pontificate about himself.
The mayor also stated that racist conservatives treat âyoung black menâ as âboogeymenâ and think âonly straight, white wealthy menâ should have power. Scott added that he knows what people critical of DEI âwant to say and they donât have the courage to say the n-word.â Apparently expressing opposition to DEI is coded race hatred.
Of course, objecting to DEI, which promotes people based on their skin color, not their merits, is not only reasonable, but also anti-racist. Scottâs demonization of people who criticize DEI is dishonest and needlessly polarizing. That, coupled with his self-obsessive TV appearances makes one wonder what kind of man is running the city of Baltimore.
