Overshadowing the absurd plea deals that the Biden Administration gifted the masterminds of the September 11th attacks was the freeing of three American hostages in Russia in a prisoner swap.
Among those freed included Paul Whelan, who was falsely accused of spying and detained in December 2018, then sentenced to 16 years in prison. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was detained in March 2023 on bogus espionage charges and then sentenced to 16 years in prison, was also freed in the exchange - as was Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison in April 2023.
While speaking on their release, Biden attempted to get a one-liner off on the man who destroyed him so badly in a debate that he had to drop out of the presidential race.
When asked by a reporter about Trumpās reaction to the swap, that he couldāve freed the hostages without negotiations, Biden fired back āWhy didn't he do it when he was president?ā before walking away as if this was a "mic drop" moment.
Watch below:
Thereās one obvious problem with his question - that two thirds of those freed were imprisoned during Bidenās tenure.
If Biden wants to criticize Trump for not being able to free Whelan, heās not off the hook either, as when he first had the opportunity for a prison swap, the Biden admin chose to take WNBA āstarā Brittney Griner instead of Whelan. Unlike Whelan, Griner actually did objectively violate the laws of Russia by bringing a marijuana pen into the country - though obviously the punishment inflicted on her for that was absurdly excessive.
