Joe Biden snapped at a reporter for not “playing by the rules” that are designed to protect a mentally failing Biden from the press.
Biden has frequently been spotted with so-called “cheat sheets” containing reporters’ names and questions they’re going to ask, which the White House has defended, as they all know how much worse he’d perform without them.
While taking questions at the G-7 about Ukraine at a news conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden said he’d take two questions, and wasn’t pleased when they didn’t have anything to do with Ukraine.
According to Fox:
Biden signed a 10-year agreement with Ukraine to continue providing military equipment for its ongoing war with Russia. At the news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Biden announced they would take two questions from American reporters and two from Ukraine.
When Bloomberg’s Josh Wingrove got to ask his question, he shifted the topic to U.S. efforts in the Israel-Gaza war, which chaffed Biden.
"I wish you guys would play by the rules a little bit. I'm here to talk about a critical situation in Ukraine. You're asking another subject. I'll be happy to answer in detail later, but the bottom line is that we made an agreement [in regard to Gaza]," Biden responded.
Before Wingrove, Biden called on a reporter from The Associated Press, who not only asked about expanding the parameters on U.S. weapons into Russia, but also about Biden’s son Hunter.
Watch below:
Surprisingly the White House Correspondents’ Association put out a statement defending the reporters’ right to ask whatever questions they want in response to Biden. "The White House Correspondents’ Association believes it is in the public interest to make clear that at a presidential press conference, at home or abroad, there are no preconditions regarding question topics," the statement read. "While the White House does determine the number of reporters the president will recognize, it is up to professional journalists to decide what to ask."
It’s amusing to note that this is how poorly Biden is doing with a press that are practically his stenographers. During the 2020 presidential election cycle, there was 150 times as much negative coverage of Trump than Biden by the very outlets Biden is complaining about now for not “playing by the rules.” While Donald Trump had no shortage of complaints about the media, at least he had a leg to stand on in that most journalists saw derailing his presidency as their real job. And despite that, he still took their questions, and engaged with countless interviews with them - Biden can hardly say the same.
