CNBC’s John Kernen effortlessly fact-checked Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm live on air when she tried to deny comments from Joe Biden about destroying America’s energy industry.
“[And this] harkens back to Biden’s campaign promise to ‘put the fossil fuel business out of business.” He said ‘read my lips, we will put fossil fuels out of business,” Kernen said to Granholm in a segment on the administration pausing the approval of liquified natural gas exports.
“I did not hear him say that” Granholm, who once appeared in a 2018 video singing about the end of gasoline and fossil fuels, began to reply before a perplexed Kernen chimed in “What? Just look at YouTube…. It’s on YouTube.” (Or for those who can’t stand YouTube, Rumble also has the video).
Kernen is referencing an exchange Biden had back in September 2019 with an environmental activist who challenged him for accepting donations from the co-founder of a liquified natural gas firm. Biden took the hand of the activist, telling her “I want you to look at my eyes. I guarantee you. I guarantee you. We’re going to end fossil fuel.”
Granholm then ignored that and started spouting out talking points about transitioning away from fossil fuels.
Watch the video of the exchange below (and the video of Biden making the promise in 2019 is included at the end):
