During an interview with Black Entertainment Television, Joe Biden seemingly forgot the name of his Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, ironically while discussing his administration's diversity. Unable to recall his name, Biden instead referred to Austin as “the black man.”
“It’s all about treating people with dignity. For example, look at the heat I’m getting because I named a, a uh, the Secretary of Defense, the black man,” Biden said, before adding “I named Ketanji Brown - uh, I mean, because of the people I named." When Biden brought up Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, he began to say it as if he had remembered his Defense Secretary’s name, before quickly realizing he hadn’t.
