Joe Biden lost his first Democrat primary last night in the U.S. territory American Somoa to someone 99.999% of the American public has never heard of (to give a conservative estimate).
According to the Post Millennial:
Incumbent President Joe Biden lost on Super Tuesday to entrepreneur and Democrat Jason Palmer, who ran as a long-shot candidate against the president.
The race was called on Tuesday night by the Decision Desk HQ, according to KFOR. The outlet confirmed the loss with the Democratic Party of American Samoa.
Palmer has qualified for the presidential ballot in just 16 states, according to a campaign release. Palmer has pitched himself as a moderate and younger Democratic alternative to Biden in the primary.
To be fair, the caucus had almost no turnout whatsoever, as there isn’t much of a point in them participating because as a territory, they have zero electoral votes. Similarly, their House delegate (Republican Amata Coleman Radewagen) doesn’t get a vote in Congress.
Only 0.6% of registered voters bothered to turn out, with 51 votes going to Palmer, and 40 to Biden, for a minor, but embarrassing nonetheless, defeat for Biden.
By contrast the 2020 Democrat caucus saw 175 votes go to Michael Bloomberg, 103 to Tulsi Gabbard, 37 to Bernie Sanders, and 31 to Biden, who only took in 8.8% of the vote. Trump won the 2020 caucus with 100% of the vote, running uncontested.
The Republican American Samoa caucus will take place on March 8th.
