Joe Biden’s cognitive faculties are at least still intact enough for him to realize that his reelection campaign efforts have been an unmitigated disaster.
As Red State’s Nick Arama reported:
According to the report from NBC, Biden is "angry and anxious about his reelection effort." Nearly 20 lawmakers, present and past administration officials, and Biden allies, dished on his anger about Trump leading him in the polls.
[Quoting NBC] In a private meeting at the White House in January, allies of the president had just told him that his poll numbers in Michigan and Georgia had dropped over his handling of the war between Israel and Hamas. Both are battleground states he narrowly won four years ago, and he can’t afford any backsliding if he is to once again defeat Donald Trump. He began to shout and swear, a lawmaker familiar with the meeting said.
According to the report, he's "chafed at restraints" and wants to get out more to meet people face to face, but is upset his people are trying to protect him and keep him from messing up.
As Arama notes, Biden’s approval rating of 38% in the Gallup poll was below that of losing incumbents George H.W. Bush (39%) and Jimmy Carter (43%).
In another warning sign for Biden, he took in a record number of “uncommitted” votes in the Democrat primary, protest votes signaling those who cast them won’t be voting for him in the general (as opposed to those who voted for long-shot candidates in the primaries but will likely end up backing Biden regardless). By the end of Super Tuesday, over 354,000 uncommitted votes had been cast against Biden, including over 100,000 in the key swing state of Michigan, which has been decided by razor-thin margins in the past two presidential elections.
The bookies currently have the odds on Biden at +200, implying a 1 in 3 chance of winning the 2024 election.
