Joe Biden either revealed that he apparently has the ability to speak to the dead - or just had his millionth gaffe.
During a campaign speech in Las Vegas (because Nevada is holding presidential primaries today), Biden said “It was in the south of England. And I sat down and I said, ‘America is back,’ and Mitterrand from Germany, I mean from France, looked at me and said – said, ‘you know what — why — how long you back for?’”
Former President of France François Mitterrand died in 1996, and was President until 1995.
Biden was referencing a conservation at the G7 summit about the mostly peaceful (and not fiery) January 6, 2021 protests at the Capitol; “And I looked at him [the President of France], and the chancellor of Germany [Angela Merkel] said, ‘What would you say Mr. President, if you picked up the paper tomorrow in the London Times and the London Times said, ‘A thousand people break through the House of Commons, break down the doors, two Bobbies are killed in order to stop the election of a prime minister. What would you say?’
Watch below:
Biden seems to have been speaking about current French president Emmanuel Macron, but mixed up the names. The official White House transcript does include Biden saying “Mitterand,” but it has a strikethrough with “[Macron]” next to it.
Biden is expected to win the Nevada Democrat primary today, while Trump isn’t on the ballot today. However, the Nevada GOP will be holding a separate caucus on Thursday.
