Never forget that the same media that pushed the narrative that Barack Obama’s “Greatest scandal was wearing a tan suit” was the same media that incessantly covered Donald Trump’s sniffles, eating multiple scoops of ice cream, and even questioned if the speed at which he walked down a ramp was disqualifying.
To refresh everyone’s memory on that last point; after video showed Trump slowly walking down a ramp at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point back in December of 2020, the New York Times ran an article headlined “Trump’s Halting Walk Down Ramp Raises New Health Questions,” while CNN’s Chris Cillizza, who once infamously tweeted that reporters “don’t root for a side,” headlined his pointless article “Why the Donald Trump-West Point ramp story actually matters." The entirety of the liberal pundit class offered takes in a similar theme.
Then-candidate Joe Biden joined in on the action too. “Look at how he steps and look at how I step. Watch how I run up ramps and he stumbles down ramps. Come on,” Biden joked just months before the first time he’d trip and fall while walking up the steps to Air Force One.
Those comments have since aged as well as Biden’s mental faculties in light of his fall yesterday at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s commencement. Fortunately for Biden, the media suddenly changed once again the exact moment he started to lose balance, and in covering the incident, there was no editorializing about this being in any way disqualifying for Biden, whose age most voters already have serious concerns about.
While often infuriating, some of the most blatant media hackery was amusing. MSNBC columnist Wajahat Ali ridiculed a “weak” “fragile, brittle” Trump slowly walking down a ramp, but praised Biden for falling yesterday on the basis that if it was he who instead fell, he would’ve died!
As cliche has it has become to point out; the media's only standards are double standards.
