In a shocking turn of events, the elusive forces of racism/white supremacy/socioeconomic factors/millionaires and billionaires/gentrification/whatever have magically disappeared, and San Francisco has managed to complete the extremely simple task of cleaning up their city - or at least a few blocks of it.
While the city couldnât be bothered to clean up the streets to benefit its residents, its leaders have seen fit to sanitize their image to impress the communist dictator arriving this week.
According to Fox:
San Francisco has erected barricades and fencing to secure the APEC summit where President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet this week.
Biden and Xi will meet face to face on the sidelines of the San Francisco summit, hosted against a backdrop of icy relations between China and the United States and as wars rage in Israel against Hamas and in Ukraine against Russian invaders.
Several reports say San Francisco officials have been stepping up efforts to clear homeless encampments, which have long plagued the cityâs downtown, through dedicated outreach intervention focused on the vicinity of the conference. Open-air drug dealing and homelessness have long troubled business owners and residents across the city.
However, with the conference in town, the city is only allowing homeless people normally living in the area deemed a security zone for APEC access to nearby shelters in an effort to get them off the street ahead of this weekâs events.
Governor Gavin Newsom himself admitted about the timing: "I know folks say, 'Oh, they're just cleaning up this place because all these fancy leaders are coming into town.' That's true because it's true" - before attempting to spin it as something that has been in the works for months.
Even the progressive residents of San Francisco see this for what it is, with users of the Bay Area Subreddit slamming the temporary changes. âAs residents, we cannot be docile and okay with this. If they only clean up the streets/homeless immediately before a big convention, it means city administration is giving an implicit middle finger disrespect to the city residents,â one resident wrote.
âIt is the duty of the city that is collecting taxes from the people to keep the city clean for tax paying citizens. But what they are now doing is cleaning the city for some random guests who don't even give a dime about the city,â another resident commented. âApparently San Francisco needs to be a safe space for degenerate drug users to slowly kill themselves. If that wasn't the case they would have made an effort to change it long before now,â wrote another resident in response.
Another commented, tongue in cheek, that the only solution here to clean up the city is to keep inviting international politicians to San Francisco.
And theyâre probably right.
