A recent new study found that transgender adults who had undergone so-called “gender-affirming” surgery were 12 times more likely to attempt suicide than those who had not undergone the surgery.
The study used data from 90 million U.S. adult patients between the ages of 18 and 60. According to the Washington Examiner, “The results showed that 3.5% of those who had surgically transitioned were treated for suicide attempts, compared to 0.3% of non-transitioned patients.” Additionally, patients who had undergone "transition" surgery had higher rates of self-harm and PTSD.
The news comes as the global West is rethinking its unquestioning, anti-science support of transgender “treatments.” For instance, the U.K.’s National Health Services published a 388-page report last month concluding that medically transitioning minors are harmful to children’s mental and physical wellbeing. Meanwhile, last week, Peru officially classified transgender individuals as “mentally ill.”
Despite studies and experts insisting that transgender “care” is harmful, Health and Human Services Department Secretary Xavier Becerra said that the federal government would be withholding federal funds from Christian hospitals that do not perform transgender surgeries on religious grounds.
"If a healthcare facility is violating the law and not providing the service they're required to, they are not entitled to the resources,” Becerra said during a House hearing last Wednesday.
"Instead of helping young people embrace how God created them as male or female, the Biden administration wants to permanently alter their bodies and force sterilization in many cases,” said Vice President of the American Family Association Walker Wildmon. “Not only should hospitals use all available legal options to fight back, but Americans more broadly must wake up to this wicked agenda and roundly reject this wicked gender ideology at every turn.”
