Trump Congratulates Mike Johnson for Being Elected House Speaker

Donald Trump reacted last night to Representative Mike Johnson being elected as House speaker 22 days after Kevin McCarthy was ousted.  

Not a single Republican voted against Johnson for speaker, leaving many wondering why they didn’t just nominate him in the first place. 

Speaking to reporters outside a New York courtroom, Trump said “I just want to congratulate Mike Johnson. He will be a great Speaker of the House, and we were very happy to have helped. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a tremendous leader and a tremendous man.”

“At this time yesterday, nobody was thinking of Mike. And then we put out the word, and now he’s the Speaker of the House. So I want to just thank all of the supporters that I have, and I want to thank all the supporters that Mike has, and again, he’ll be a great Speaker. I think you’re going to be very proud,’ Trump added.

And giving some even stronger endorsements of Johnson; the New York Times published an article fear mongering that the “far right” has gotten it’s man in the House, political hack Bill Kristol has complained that Johnson has an “F” rating on supporting Ukraine, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul has warned that Johnson will be a disaster “for New York and our nation.” 

While hardly a household name, Johnson was one of Trump’s strongest allies in Congress and was mentored by Jim Jordan. Johnson was chosen to serve on Trump’s House legal team during failed impeachment attempts, and seemingly triggered the left the most in helping organize efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election.
