Trump Hits Harris Over Record on Crime in New Ad

As common sense would suggest, bailing out alleged criminals tends to help them commit more crimes.

States like New York that have implemented “bail reform” policies (which in their case eliminated cash bail for 90% of crimes) ended up having to roll them back after the consequences were immediate. In just the first two months of the 2020 (the year it took effect), the NYPD released statistics showing that nearly five hundred suspects who would’ve otherwise been in jail awaiting trial committed an additional 846 crimes they wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity to commit.

In lieu of bail abolition, progressive groups have popularized the use of “bail funds” to help free alleged criminals instead of spending their money on something productive. Bail funds have been increasingly popular among leftists to bail out protesters and rioters, so much so that then Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris promoted one as rioters caused $2+ billion in property damage and killed at least 19 people following the death of George Floyd.

In a new ad, the Trump campaign blasted Harris for endorsing that bail fund that ultimately assisted in freeing individuals accused of murder, sexual assault, and other violent crimes.

The campaign video, set against footage of the burning of a Minneapolis police precinct during the 2020 riots, highlighted reports indicating that the Minnesota Freedom Fund raised $35 million within weeks after Harris's promotion.

The video then listed violent criminals who were released due to the bailouts from the Minnesota Freedom Fund. All of the offenders are currently in prison either for the charges they were bailed out for or for subsequent crimes.

Among the examples highlighted included the fund posting $100,000 bail for Darnika Floyd, who was charged with second-degree murder and accused of stabbing a man to death after he proposed a threesome with her and a friend. She was sentenced to prison in 2021 for aiding and abetting murder. Another was Christopher Boswell, a twice-convicted rapist charged with kidnapping and sexual assault, who was released on $350,000 bail thanks to the fund. He was sentenced to prison in 2023 for criminal sexual conduct.

The ad also briefly mentioned Shawn Michael Tillman, who committed a murder in St. Paul after being released by the fund Harris promoted. Tillman was convicted of gunning down a rival on a light rail platform in 2022 and is currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole for murder.

So damning is this to Harris that the media is already trying to pretend it never happened. One local CBS affiliate set up a straw man to knock down, publishing an article debunking the claim that Harris personally donated to the fund, which nobody claimed. On Twitter/X, their post was quickly corrected with a community note pointing users to where they could see Harris promoting the fund for themselves.
