As Joe Biden continues trying to pitch Bidenomics to the American public, Vice President Kamala Harris accidentally made the case against it.
While speaking on âreproductive rightsâ at an event in Iowa, Harris argued that women in Iowa would have to suffer economic hardships associated with traveling to other states for legal abortions, which would be horrible considering the state of the average American's finances.
"If she is a single parent, she's going to have to be able to pay for that childcare. She's going to lose time for work. Maybe she has paid family leave. Maybe she doesn't. Maybe she has paid sick leave. Maybe she doesn't. She will have to be able to pay for a plane, train, bus, gas. Most Americans are a $400 unexpected expense away from bankruptcy,â Harris stated, which begs the question whether sheâs forgotten who her boss is.
Watch below:
Harris was referencing data from the Federal Reserveâs Economic Well-being of U.S. Households survey. The survey wasnât measuring the percent that would go bankrupt from a $400 expense like Harris claimed, but rather the percent who would need to borrow or sell something to cover an unexpected $400 expense. This still isnât great - and is nearly double the 27% of Americans in that situation in 2019.
According to one estimate, by the end of last year, cumulative Bidenflation had already cost the typical household $10,000. While the administration has championed the lower inflation prints in recent months, that all has to be remembered as being in the context of coming down from multi-decade highs on his watch.
