NJ GOP Congressional Candidate Receives Letter Threatening his Children; Urges him to Drop Out of Race

New Jersey Republican Congressional candidate Jay Webber received a threatening letter urging him to drop out of the race on Tuesday.

The note was sent to his Whippany, NJ office and included a ripped up Webber for Congress campaign sign.  “What the f— is wrong with you … scumbag?” the letter states. “You BETTER hope that you don’t win! Or else. How many kids do you have… 7? Unlucky 7. What is what we think of you. Time to get out of politics.”

According to NJ.com, Webber, who is running in the 11th Congressional district, often incorporates his seven children and his wife, Johanna into his campaign and has featured them in campaign ads.

NJ state police are investigating the threat.

On Wednesday, Webber released a statement which reads, “Criticizing a candidate on the issues is part of politics. Threatening my children is not. We are thankful for the support of law enforcement as we work to find whoever is behind this gutless act. We will not be intimidated as we work to make North Jersey and the United States better for everyone.”
