A comment from former president Barack Obama pointing out the blatantly obvious fact that open borders is an unsustainable policy didn’t make the final cut when ABC aired the interview it was from.
While speaking of the current crisis at the border under Joe Biden’s watch, Obama said “Immigration is tough. It always has been because, on the one hand, I think we are naturally a people that wants to help others. And we see tragedy and hardship and families that are desperately trying to get here so that their kids are safe, and they’re in some cases fleeing violence or catastrophe.”
But then he added a subtle dig at the current policy of the Biden administration: “At the same time, we’re a nation state. We have borders. The idea that we can just have open borders is something that…as a practical matter, is unsustainable.”
It sure would’ve been nice for him to have echoed that kind of common sense rhetoric during the eight years he was in office, but we didn’t hear it then, and thanks to ABC, most aren’t going to hear it now. As it turned out, “ABC News World Tonight” excluded the “open borders” comments and instead aired a portion where Obama blamed Republicans for so-called “comprehensive immigration reform” not passing congress.
