Last month an IRS agent sought whistleblower protection with the goal of exposing political corruption in the political investigation into Hunter Biden’s finances.

Attorney Mark Lytle, who is representing the whistleblower-to-be, told CBS that his client wants to come forward to congress and be questioned about what he knows under proper legal protections.  In a letter, Lytle said that his client’s information would “contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee” - with it later being revealed that this appointee is Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Garland had testified to lawmakers that his investigation was free of any improper political interference.

For the first time since the whistleblower news made headlines, Garland was asked at a news conference if he stands by that statement.

"Yes, it's still the case I stand by my testimony,” Garland said, before trying to divert the reporter elsewhere. “And I refer you to the U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware who is in charge of this case and capable of making any decisions that he feels are appropriate," he continued.

As the Washington Examiner’s Jerry Dunleavy noted, Senator Chuck Grassley had suggested back in March that Garland’s testimony would be misleading “because without special counsel authority he could need the permission of another U.S. attorney’s office in certain circumstances to bring charges” beyond Delaware.
