During remarks delivered at Bowie State University in Maryland, VP Kamala Harris bragged about the Biden administration reducing inflation - a talking point comical to anyone that’s made a purchase in the past two years.
"We have reduced heating and electricity bills so folks have more money in their pocket to buy things like school supplies, replace the dishwasher or take a family vacation” she told her audience.
Watch below:
As reality would have it, since Biden took office, the price of electricity is up 12%, fuel oil 28%, and natural gas 27%. Parents spent about double on school supplies in 2022 than the year before, and the cost of vacationing was up too, while the appliance market wasn’t spared from inflation either.
Desperate for any sort of economic victory, Biden has touted rising worker pay without factoring in inflation. "You know, and as inflation is coming down, take-home pay for workers is going up," Biden said last month. "Workers’ wages are higher now than they were seven months ago, adjusted for inflation."
The “reduction” in inflation is simply inflation continuing at a slightly slower pace, and he cherry picked the only period during his presidency that wages outpaced inflation to make his argument. Cumulative inflation according to the consumer price index since Biden took office has wiped out $10,000 for the typical household.Matt Palumbo is the author of Fact-Checking the Fact-Checkers: How the Left Hijacked and Weaponized the Fact-Checking Industry and The Man Behind the Curtain: Inside the Secret Network of George Soros
