AOC: Biden’s $2+ Trillion Infrastructure Bill Is Not Enough – We Can Do $10 Trillion

Regrettably, there is probably a reasonably good chance that Joe Biden’s $2 trillion dollar infrastructure bill will become law, but according to AOC, it’s still far too small. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez complained on Rachel Maddow’s show that:

I (AOC) have serious concerns that it’s not enough to realize the very inspiring vision that Biden has advanced. So I believe that those of us here, especially as progressives within the Democratic Party — we know that there is so much more opportunity here. In order for us to realize this inspiring vision, we need to go way higher. That’s what’s going to help us actually deliver on this really promising and inspiring vision the president laid out today. I think that we need to really have some shorter timelines, some urgency, greater urgency in this package, and I think some of the investments need to be greater. We’re looking at ideals and what we think is the actual investment that can create tens of millions of good union jobs in this country that can shore up our health care, our infrastructure, our housing, and doing it in a way that draws down our carbon figures to help us get in line with IPCC standards we’re talking about realistically $10 trillion over ten years.

And I know that may be an eye-popping figure for some people, but we need to understand that we are in a devastating economic moment. Millions of people in the United States are unemployed. We have a truly crippled health-care system and a planetary crisis on our hands. We’re the wealthiest nation in the history of the world. So we can do $10 trillion.

This infrastructure bill would be the biggest spending bill in modern American history after the CARES Act, but even that isn’t enough for her.

If America is the “wealthiest nation in the history of the world” as AOC claims, why do we have a 28 trillion dollar debt? Aren’t wealthy nations able to pay their bills? You could just as easily ask if we’re so wealthy, why is it that a nation that took in $3.5 trillion dollars in tax revenue in 2019 ran a $3.1 trillion dollar deficit in 2020 and is on pace to run a 4.2 trillion dollar deficit this year BEFORE the $2+ trillion infrastructure bill gets figured in?

Or perhaps it’s just the case that even the wealthiest nation in the world still isn’t wealthy enough to fund her socialist pipe dream.

At this point, our politicians are just kids playing with monopoly money they didn’t earn and never intend to pay back. Once you get into that mentality, why not 10 trillion as AOC wants? Heck, why not 20 trillion? It’s all fun and games on the consequences hit. Then it’s out-of-control inflation, another great depression, and an end to government payments like Social Security and Medicare. It’s not a happy future, but it’s where we’re headed as a nation and we’re getting increasingly close to the point where it will be too late to turn around.
