Socialist congresswoman and “squad” member, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at successful business owners yesterday, claiming they pay slave wages and profit off the backs of “black and brown” people.
The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra highlighted her comments in which she claimed people were “literally dying” because they can’t afford to live while working for billionaires.
During an interview at a Martin Luther King Day event, AOC was asked a hypothetical question by the interviewer: “I’m Joe Billionaire. I made widgets. I sold widgets I made billions of dollars selling those widgets, making those widgets, therefore those billions of dollars are mine. Why am I the enemy of health care?”
She replied, “Well, you didn’t make those widgets, did you? Because you employed thousands of people and paid them less than a living wage to make those widgets for you. You didn’t make those widgets.”
“You sat on a couch while thousands of people were paid modern day slave wages, and in some cases real slave, real modern-day slavery, uh, depending on where you are in terms of food production,” she said. “Um, you made that money off the backs of undocumented people. You made that money off the backs of black and brown people being paid under a living wage.”
“You made that money off the backs of single mothers and all these people who are literally dying because they can’t afford to live and so no one ever makes a billion dollars, you take a billion dollars,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.
Of course, AOC claims she’s not out to demonize billionaires (She did–in fact–accept a $2,700 campaign donation from billionaire Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer). She just wants to warn everyone that “life in capitalism always ends in billionaires. If you don’t do it, someone else will. It’s who decides to make that choice is just kind of up to, you know, circumstance.”
