Democrats and Republicans have been trying to put together another stimulus bill for months, but have been unable to do so because Democrats keep adding poison pills to each package. Their goal is to block a stimulus bill that might help people now, try to falsely blame Republicans for the delay, hope that both of those things help them win more seats, and then rewrite a stimulus bill as they see fit next year. It’s a deeply cynical strategy and Trump responded to it on Twitter.
“If I am sent a Stand Alone Bill for Stimulus Checks ($1,200), they will go out to our great people IMMEDIATELY. I am ready to sign right now. Are you listening Nancy?” he wrote. “Move Fast, I Am Waiting To Sign!” he added in a second tweet.

Quite frankly, those direct payments to Americans were probably the best part of the first stimulus bill and you could make a much better argument than usual for them. After all, when the government forces you to shut down your legal business and won’t allow willing customers to use it, they should have some obligation to repair the damage that they’ve caused to all the people that they have put out of work. Does a $1200 check fix all of that damage? No, but it at least puts some money in the hands of people that aren’t able to pay their bills because of the government’s actions.
On the other hand, Democrats unsurprisingly are primarily focused on funneling 600 billion dollars in taxpayer money to their big-city allies that allowed their local economies to be destroyed by draconian lockdown rules and unrestrained rioting. Trump correctly noted this and it’s even more problematic than most people realize.

Things like rioting and locking down businesses in a city tend to be self-correcting problems. If you allow disorder in the streets and make life unbearable with lockdowns, people with money, business owners, and much of your tax base will start to leave. You’re already seeing this in places like California where famous residents like Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, and Ben Shapiro have moved on this year. However, if your tax dollars are sent to these cities to pay for their poor choices, the lesson they should be learning is blunted. That’s why all Americans should hope that the strategy the Democrats are using fails, so it will be easier to put a stop to these riots and unnecessary lockdowns.
