Earlier this week, we reported that that New York City had surpassed 1,000 shootings for the year, and that, according to NYPD data, this year so far has seen double the amount of shootings than at this point in 2019.

Now, NBC 4 reports that that the amount of shootings in N.Y.C. for August of this year is double the amount of last August. N.Y.C. saw 242 shootings in August 2020, while August 2019 saw 91. The city saw 53 murders in August 2020, while 36 murders occurred in August of 2019.

Who would’ve thought that defunding the police and scrapping the plainclothes anti-crime unit would be a bad idea?

In early June, in the wake of the May 25th alleged police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the ensuing nationwide riots, calls to defund major city police departments grew, and Leftist-governed N.Y.C. was no exception. At the time, the Hill reported that Mayor Bill De Blasio “pledged to cut funding for the New York Police Department and reallocate it to youth and social services.” A few weeks later, the far-Left mayor proposed a $1B cut from the NYPD’s annual budget. The NYPD also disbanded their plainclothes anti-crime unit, whose primary focus was on taking illegal guns off the street,  and reassigned the unit’s 600 officers in order to improve community relations, Commissioner Dermot Shea said at the time.

Again, who could have possibly seen this spike in crime coming?

This is Bill De Blasio and the Left’s destruction of a great city.
