The Biden administration is quickly finding out that making promises on the campaign trail to put a stop to the coronavirus pandemic and actually following through on that promise in power are two different games.
Despite promises to improve upon the Trump administrationās response, a new report shows that Joe Bidenās pandemic response is already in disarray, in part because the administration may have lost track of as many as 20 million COVID-19 vaccine doses.
From The Blaze:
The report also indicates that the Biden administration cannot locate about 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that have been sent to the states, and is concerned that “the crucial supply is boxed away in warehouses, sitting idle in freezers or floating elsewhere in the complex distribution pipeline that runs from the administration to individual states.”
Naturally, Biden is blaming this lack of accounting on Trump. But analysts have noted that Bidenās plan for vaccine distribution was already lagging behind the pace of the previous administrationās:
The report also notes that administration officials have discovered that the available stockpile of vaccine is “mostly empty,” and that they are struggling to find ways to boost production in order to even meet the administration’s initial goal of 100 million vaccination doses in the first 100 days, which was widely criticized as being too modest and not even an improvement on the rate of vaccine delivery during the final days of the Trump administration.
The challenge of responding to a pandemic amid lofty promises has not been lost on administration officials, with one official even invoking a famed Mike Tyson quote to describe the administrationās current position.
“It’s the Mike Tyson quote: ‘Everybody’s got a plan until they get punched in the mouth,'” the official was quoted as saying.
Biden for months promised policies that would alter the course of the pandemic, but shortly after taking office changed his tune and admitted there was nothing that could be done to āchange its trajectory.ā
“If we fail to act, there will be a wave of evictions and foreclosures in the coming months as this pandemic rages on because thereās nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months,” Biden said.
The loss of millions of vaccine doses now threatens to prove Biden correct.
