A new book from famed Clinton Cash author Peter Schweizer addresses how a firm employing Joe Biden’s younger brother received more than $1.5 billion in government contracts during the Obama Administration, reports Breitbart.
In his new book, Profiles in Corruption: Abuse of Power by America’s Progressive Elite, Schweizer describes how, despite not having any experience in the construction world, James Biden became executive Vice President of the new international development company, HillStone International–a subsidiary of the struggling Hill International.
According to Schweizer’s book, “The president of HillStone International was Kevin Justice, who grew up in Delaware and was a longtime Biden family friend. He was friends with lots of Bidens, especially Joe’s sons Hunter and Beau.”
HillStone pursued technology and construction projects in the Middle East.
“Of particular interest to the company were the millions being given to government contractors for the rebuilding of war-torn Iraq—an endeavor Joe Biden was tasked to oversee by President Barack Obama,” writes Breitbart.
In November of 2010, Justice went to the White House and met with Michele Smith, a top Biden aide who served as his liaison to “global government officials and business executives.”
Although the confines of that meeting have not been made public, the subsequent events seem to imply it was beneficial for both HillStone and the Bidens.
“Less than three weeks later, HillStone announced that the vice president’s brother James would be joining the firm as executive vice president,” Schweizer notes.
When announcing the hire, the company lauded James’s professional career as much as it did his political ties.
James’s biography read on firm’s website, “At the age of 22, [James] Biden was the finance chairman of his then 29-year-old brother’s bid for a U.S. Senate seat in Delaware and successfully enlisted the support of national unions, political leaders and financiers across the country.”
Six months after James joined Hillstone, the firm received a contract to build more than 100,000 homes in Iraq. The deal, which was estimated to be worth upwards of $1.5 billion, was part of a larger $35 billion contract awarded to a South Korean company. At the time it went public, both HillStone and the Obama White House denied Joe Biden had played any role.
James Biden would have been eligible to split more than $735 million in profits upon the completion of the contract while Hill International (run by a Democrat campaign contributor) would have received a majority of the profits as 51 percent owner of HillStone, notes the publication.
Schweizer appeared on Fox and Friends yesterday to discuss the corruption within the Biden family–which extends well beyond James.
“There [are] five Biden family members that got very, very good deals while Joe Biden was vice president of the United States,” he said. “That’s Hunter, of course. There’s new material in the book about Hunter — about how he actually got taxpayer grants from the Obama administration. We have got his brother James. We have got his other brother Frank. We have got his sister Valerie. And, we’ve actually got his daughter Ashley, as well,” said Schweizer. “All of whom cashed in while he was vice president of the United States.”
In August, Joe Biden claimed, “I’ve never discussed with my son or my brother, or anyone else anything having to do with their businesses, period,” which Schweizer said is far from the truth.
The author claimed that the Bidens also had access to taxpayer backed loans and grants as well as access to then-President Barack Obama.
“In fact, Ashley Biden’s husband actually basically launched his business from the Oval Office,” Schweizer said. “Joe Biden set up a meeting with Barack Obama. Joe Biden later went and briefed those investors in the company privately as vice president of the United States.”
