Former Vice President Joe Biden may not know where supporters can go to contribute to his campaign, but he sure is convinced he knows how to solve gun violence. In a New York Times column, Biden said he would “accelerate the development and deployment of smart-gun technology…so that guns are keyed to the individual biometrics of authorized owners.”
Biden also claimed that “there’s overwhelming data that shootings committed with assault weapons kill more people than shootings with other types of guns” although conveniently he did not include any of that “data” to back his opinion piece. However, he knows that “shooters looking to inflict mass carnage choose assault weapons with high-capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds” and that criminals “choose them because they want to kill as many people as possible without having to stop and reload.”
He also discussed his support to reinstate the controversial 1994 assault weapons ban which expired in 2004. He said if he becomes President, he will pair the ban “with a buyback program to get as many assault weapons off our streets as possible as quickly as possible.” President Trump and many others do not support the weapons ban because it was unsuccessful, and with regards to high-capacity magazines, the issue is being addressed at the state level. Currently, nine states have banned magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
This is yet again another example of Democrats’ misunderstanding of the firearms world.
Liberals often do not distinguish the difference between an AR-15 and automatic rifles and use the terms interchangeably. An AR-15 stands for ArmaLite Rifle, NOT “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.” To call an AR-15 an assault weapon is incorrect and insinuates that it is a military level weapon such as a fully automatic firearm like machine guns. As the National Shooting Sports Foundation notes, “Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.”
One must consider an even worse possibility than liberals not being educated in the very arena they want to penetrate, is that they do understand. If they do understand, they are knowingly lying to the American people and manipulating voters to further their agenda.
