As Joe Biden weaponizes rhetoric about Donald Trump being a “threat to democracy,” he's now is facing the same allegations from his only real Democrat primary challenger in 2024. Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips launched a primary challenge to Biden in late October, and isn’t running against for the House next election cycle.
“You said that the voters here [in New Hampshire] are disenfranchised by the whole calendar that we saw come out of the DNC. Given all of that, do you think the president is a threat to democracy?” a reporter asked Phillips.
“Yes,” Phillips replied. "Because if he wasn’t he would say something about what happened in Florida last week. And if he wasn’t, he’d do something about what happened in New Hampshire.”
In late October the Florida Democrat Party’s executive committee voted to exclude Phillips and long-shot candidates such as Marianne Williamson and Cenk Uygur from the Democrat primary ballot, leaving only Biden as an option. Biden also attempted (unsuccessfully) to unseat New Hampshire’s “first-in-the-nation” primary slot because he placed fifth in their primary back in 2020, which was obviously humiliating for him.
After taking a mandatory shot at Trump, Phillips added “[How can Biden] do what he did in New Hampshire and allow what’s happening in Florida. How? I don’t understand it. And maybe I’m wrong, but I haven’t heard anything from Biden on how the Florida Democratic Party executive committee declared him the winner of an election that didn’t happen. If anyone sees it differently, please let me know - I think it’s reprehensible and I’m really concerned about him [Biden].”
