California continues adding to the seemingly endless list of reasons people should flee their state.

The progressive moment has been a post-truth movement for decades, and we’ve now reached the point where now even objective concepts like 2+2=4 are considered racist (yes, really), and the categories of “man” and “woman” are interchangeable based on feelings. Many of these progressives also argue that America should spend more on mental healthcare – which is perhaps the only policy they’ve ever made a convincing case for, albeit accidentally.

The latest batch of insanity out of California progressives is to allow prisoners to determine if they go to a male prison or female prison based on whatever they self-identify as, rather than their biological sex. And of course, it’s all under the guise of transgender acceptance.

According to The Blaze:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a new law on Saturday allowing transgender inmates to be placed in prisons based on their gender identity.

Previously, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation housed men and women in separate correctional facilities, and transgender inmates were housed based on their biological sex. The new California law will allow transgender inmates to be housed based on their gender identity rather than their sex assigned at birth.

The Transgender Respect, Agency, and Dignity Act notes that officers must privately ask inmates during the intake process on how they identify as. Transgender, nonbinary, or intersex inmates can request to be placed in a facility that houses either men or women based on how they identify as.

The law says the CDCR cannot deny requests for the preferred prison based solely on the inmates’ anatomy, sexual orientation, or “a factor present” among other inmates at the facility, the law states.

However, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation can deny the request of preferred prison if there is “management or security concerns.” If a request is denied, the state must give the inmate a written statement explaining the decision and give the inmate a “meaningful opportunity” to object,

The consequences of this of immediately obvious to any thinking person. What prevents a man from simply identifying as a woman to attend a women’s prison? Absolutely nothing.

California isn’t the first state to implement this sort of policy, and the results are exactly what you’d expect. According to the data on prison rape in the United Kingdom, transgender prisoners are five times more likely to carry out sex attacks on inmates at women’s jails than other prisoners. A study found similar results out of California’s prison system:

The reason for that overrepresentation may not be entirely due to transgender individuals themselves being more prone to committing such crimes, but because this sort of policy creates an easy to exploit loophole for those looking to exploit it.

There is no protocol in place whatsoever to prevent someone from merely identifying as the opposite gender for nefarious purposes, and even if someone did question how legitimate someone’s self-identified gender is, the likes of Gavin Newsom would probably brand them a bigot for doing so.

And that aside, what are we to do if a prisoner self-identifies as innocent?
