All charges have been dropped against Empire star Jussie Smollett, who was accused of filing false police reports regarding an alleged hate crime attack in January.
According to Fox News “the judge granted a nolle pros, which essentially means that the case has been dropped and that he will no longer be prosecuted for the alleged crime.”
Smollett thanked his fans in a statement outside of the courthouse today, saying “I want to thank my family, my friends, the incredible people of Chicago and all over the country and world who have prayed for me, supported me and shown me love. No one will ever know how much that has meant to me. Not for a moment was it in vain.”
According to the Daily Mail, Chicago police chiefs are said to be “furious” with the decision to drop the charges, as they believe they have strong evidence against the actor.
In the alleged incident, Smollett claims he was attacked by two men who poured bleach on him and shouted “This is MAGA country.”
On March 16, Smollett pled not guilty to 16 counts stemming from the incident.
