According to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, a majority within his own party say they’d like to see someone else as the Democrat nominee next year.
The survey, which was conducted throughout March and completed before the Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Trump, put his approval at 42/57 overall. Among Democrats, 54% say they’d prefer someone else be the Democrat nominee in ‘24, compared to only 44% who think it should be Biden.
Overall, only 32% say Biden deserves re-election, while 67% say he doesn’t. This was down from 37% in December. Interestingly, the percent who don’t believe he deserves re-election is 10-percentage points below his approval rating - meaning roughly a quarter of those "approving" of him don’t approve of him enough for a second term.
As CNN noted in reporting on the poll, much of the decline in support from December to now has come from young voters and liberals, who should naturally be on Biden’s side.
