CNNās ratings have fallen to 9-year-lows - which many are speculating is due to the networkās programming being completely unwatchable.
According to Outkickās Bobby Burack:
CNN had hoped for a better new year. In 2022, the network recorded substantial declines in daytime and primetime. But the early results of 2023 are hardly promising.
For the week of Jan. 16 through Jan. 22, 2023, CNN suffered its lowest ratings week in nine years. Not since the Obama administration had the network experienced such a drought.
CNN averaged 444,000 viewers in primetime, and 93,000 in the advertiser-coveted age 25-54 news demographic. CNN averaged 417,000 and 80,000 in the demo in the daytime.
Thatās the first time since May 2014 the network failed to draw an audience of at least 450,000.
While thereās no shortage of examples of their absurdity to choose from; in just one case from last week, a CNN guest argued, while footage played in the background of a police car on fire, that this didnāt truly amount to violence. Back in 2020, CNN was similarly ridiculed when a reporter described the summer riots as āfiery, but mostly peaceful.ā
Previously, CNN retained a large share of their audience by forcing them to watch its programming against their will at our nationās airports - but CNN Airport folded in March 2021, ending that monopoly. The network then attempted to pivot into streaming with the launch of CNN+, which lasted just under a month after drawing under 10,000 daily viewers. CNN concluded last year with layoffs and budget cuts.
