CNN’s Acosta Hypocritically Claims Trump Speech Xenophobic for Calling COVID-19 “Foreign Virus”

Always one to jump at the opportunity to sow division in the nation, CNN’s Jim Acosta claimed President Trump’s Oval Office address on the Wuhan coronavirus was “smacking of xenophobia” because he called COVID-19 a “foreign virus.”

Reporting last night outside of the White House, Acosta said, “The president referred to the coronavirus as a ‘foreign virus,’ that I think was interesting because, I was talking to sources earlier this evening, one of the points that the president wanted to make tonight, wanted to get across to Americans, is that this virus did not start here, but that they’re dealing it. Now, why the president would go as far to describe it as a foreign virus, that is something we’ll also be asking questions about. But I think it should be pointed out that Stephen Miller who is an immigration hardliner…was a driving force in writing this speech and I think it’s going to come across to a lot of Americans as smacking of xenophobia to use that kind of term in this speech.

What Acosta failed to acknowledge was that both he and his network had previously called the virus the “Wuhan coronavirus”– a term which now clearly smacks of “xenophobia” by Acosta’s standards.

Fox News points out that as recent as January 23, 2020, Acosta tweeted, “CNN International: Authorities in Beijing have cancelled all large-scale Chinese New Year celebrations in an effort to contain the growing spread of Wuhan Coronavirus.”

Also on January 23, CNN published an article titled “Disease detectives hunting down more information about ‘super spreader’ of Wuhan coronavirus.” In the article, the coronavirus is referred to as both the “Wuhan virus” and the “Wuhan coronavirus.”

CNN is far from the only news company to label the virus in such a “xenophobic” manner.

The Media Research Center produced an incredible video compilation showing all the times CNN and other liberal outlets called the virus the “Chinese coronavirus” or the “Wuhan virus.”

Breitbart also created a list of 15 times the establishment media used these “xenophobic” phrases to refer to the coronavirus after liberals like Nancy Pelosi and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes expressed their outrage over conservatives labeling the virus after its origin in Wuhan, China.

That list includes:

The Washington Post:

The Los Angeles Times:
