Coincidence No More: Biden Repeatedly Had Fed Agencies Help Son’s Lobbying Clients
Repeatedly presidential candidate Joe Biden, and his son Hunter, have maintained that they never spoke of Hunter’s business affairs. Joe Biden must have been pleasantly surprised, then, when he heard that his son was asked to be on the board of a Ukraine company, a country that just happened to be under his jurisdiction of duties as Vice President at the time.
Apparently, these happy coincidences just don’t end for the Bidens. “While serving as senator of Delaware, Joe Biden reached out discreetly to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to discuss matters his son Hunter Biden’s firm was then lobbying for.”
When Hunter Biden’s firm was lobbying on behalf of SEARCH, a “national nonprofit devoted to information-sharing between states in the criminal justice and public safety realm.” SEARCH hired Biden’s firm to lobby on behalf of “expanding the federal government’s fingerprint screening system.”
Wouldn’t you know it, senator Joe Biden at that very same time, wrote a letter to then U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on the very topic, asking to meet with the DOJ to “explore the benefits” of the system. Biden’s letter was sent only 12 days after SEARCH put forth a resolution expressing support of the expansion.
But wait, there’s more. In 2008 Hunter Biden’s firm was paid $93,000 for lobbying for SEARCH on behalf of legislation called the “Child Protection Improvements Act.” The legislation was introduced by, you got it, Joe Biden.
