Audio from a prison phone call between South Carolina Democrat State Rep. and U.S. Senate Candidate Krystle Matthews and an inmate was released by Project Veritas on Sunday, where she was caught urging Democrats to become "sleepers" and run as Republicans, and commit illegal acts to boost her candidacy.

"We need some secret sleepers," Matthews was heard saying. "We need them to run as the other side, even though they [are] for our side, we need people to run as Republicans in these local elections. This is the only way you’re going to change the dynamics in South Carolina," she continued. In another part of the conversation she's heard encouraging donations to her campaign from illicit activities such as drug dealing, encouraging straw donations (political contributions made to candidates under another name), and advocating stealing yard signs of political opponents.

Matthews addressed the following controversy by calling Project Veritas a "known white supremacist group" and said the audio was "doctored," but didn't explain what was doctored and seemed to double down. "I did say what I said. This was a personal call, I mean, none of us talk in private the way we talk in public necessarily" Matthews said to a local reporter about the leaked audio.

As they always do, Project Veritas followed this up by confronting Matthews, who like everyone else confronted by them, fled the scene.

Watch below:

Despite the video, Matthews won her Senate primary last night, and will be facing off against Republican Tim Scott.
