Katie Porter raised a few eyebrowns during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing where she complained about the term “groomer,” which is used to describe any adult that builds trust with minors to abuse them sexually. She also complained about the word "pedophile," which some activists in recent years have attempted to sanitize by replacing it with the term "minor attracted persons."
Porter said: “The allegation of groomer and pedophile, it is alleging that a person is criminal somehow and engaged in criminal acts merely because of — of their identity, their sexual orientation, their gender identity." She then went on to talk about how it should be prohibited to call someone a groomer on Twitter and complained there wasn’t enough censorship wasn't being done.

Since it’s inevitable that the alleged “fact checkers” will attempt to spin Porter’s comments to make them less damning, I will point out that the most charitable possible interpretation of them is that she was condemning people who falsely accuse others of being groomers and pedophiles as a way to smear them. But even then, it must be noted that there are countless cases of actual grooming behavior being downplayed by the same exact people claiming that the word is only being used as a pejorative against LGBTQ individuals. Just look at the opposition to the “Libs of TikTok’ Twitter account for example, which has been branded an “Anti-LGBTQ hate machine” for simply shining a light on liberals by sharing what they say in their own words.
