So, there’s good news and there is bad news. Let’s start with the bad news. The Democrats are coming for your guns (again). Joe Biden is planning to ban the importation of assault weapons via executive order and there are a number of gun control bills being prepared in the House. Democrats Al Green, Bobby Rush, and Sheila Jackson Lee are all working on bills.
The worst of the bunch would be Sheila Jackson Lee’s HR 127 which is designed, “To provide for the licensing of firearm and ammunition possession and the registration of firearms, and to prohibit the possession of certain ammunition.” They want to register your firearms. Incidentally, forcing people to register their weapons is also something near and dear to Joe Biden’s heart. Biden has also called for forcing owners of assault weapons to register their weapons, and his campaign manager called for mandatory gun buybacks.
Of course, if your ultimate goal is to rule people with an iron fist, you need to take their weapons first. Moreover, if you want to confiscate weapons, then you need to know where to send the goon squads. That’s why Democrats get so excited about the idea of registering weapons. It’s a step towards one-party rule at the point of a gun. Democrats never quite put it like that, but the farmer never quite tells the pigs why he’s feeding them and giving them a place to stay either. Ideally, for the farmer or the Democrat, that’s the sort of thing the victim finds out the hard way when it’s too late to do anything about it.
The good news is twofold. First, they’re not pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes. Everyone knows exactly what the Democrats are trying to do and the cooperation level from Republicans on that front should be hovering somewhere around zero. Additionally, they’re going to have an extremely difficult time getting any kind of registration through the Senate OR the House. Reason being, the Democrats have a very thin margin in both. Pelosi and AOC aren’t going to risk anything voting for these bills, but Democrats in purple states and districts? Voting on something like this is going to be scary for them. The radical Left will be angry if they don’t vote for it, but their constituents with guns will crawl over broken glass to vote against them if they do. That means unless the Democrats can add to their margins, they probably can’t pass this bill, but they can lose a number of purple seats voting for a bill that is practically doomed from the start.
