Democrats Rally Behind Coronavirus Aid for Illegals

If President Donald Trump’s slogan is “America first,” Democrats’ is “Americans last.”

After holding the Chinese virus aid bill up for days because there wasn’t enough pork in it, Democrats now want the federal government to give aid to illegal aliens.

After President Trump signed the CARES Act on March 27, which made $2.2 trillion in stimulus funds available for families and businesses affected by the nationwide lockdown, including $10 million in forgivable loans for each small business, and $1,200 to single Americans who make $75,000 or less a year, Democrats, both in Congress and nationwide, still weren’t happy because illegal immigrants are not eligible for these benefits.

“I was appalled to learn hardworking, taxpaying immigrants were left out of the $2 trillion CARES Act,” Rep. Lou Correa, D-Calif., said in a statement released April 3.

Correa, along with 49 other House Democrats, supports the Leave No Taxpayer Behind Act, which, if passed and signed into law, would allow illegal aliens to tap into funds provided by the CARES Act.

“By casting out immigrants, we are placing some of our most vulnerable residents in grave danger. Every individual taxpayer, irrespective of citizenship status, needs government assistance now,” Correa said.

Among Democrats sponsoring the legislation are Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All three are members of the so-called “squad” within the House Democratic caucus, a group of four first-term progressive women.

All four congresswomen either have called for the current relief package to include illegal aliens or allow illegal immigrants to tap into a future coronavirus relief bill.

Tlaib, for example, proposed that the federal government issue preloaded debit cards with $2,000 for every individual in the country—including illegal aliens who have lived in the U.S. for as few as three months. These debit cards would be recharged with $1,000 every month until one year after the crisis ends.

Meanwhile, mayors and governors are acting on their own.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, whose hypocrisy regarding the Wuhan virus we reported on here, signed an executive order that all city residents, regardless of immigration status, will be eligible for benefits. This will allow illegals to benefit from the city’s Housing Assistance Grant program and a $100 million Chicago Small Business Resiliency Fund.

Meanwhile, Minneapolis introduced a multimillion-dollar emergency housing assistance program, and under the qualification guidelines, it says that “living in the country unlawfully is not an obstacle to receiving funds.”

Also, California has introduced a micro-lending program to assist small businesses in the state ineligible for the federal program, presumably those run by illegal immigrants. Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom also confirmed that he is working with state legislators on a “Disaster Relief Fund,” which would pay cash to the state’s illegal aliens until the lockdown ends.

Once again, Democrats aren’t letting a crisis go to waste.
