Finally: Gov. Whitmer Lifts Michigan Lockdown
Well, it looks like Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who has arguably imposed the harshest lockdown in the country in the wake of the Wuhan flu, finally lifted it.
Apparently it took a few protests, backlash from her own party, and a bevy of lawsuits to make this happen.
According to WILX NBC10, Whitmer plans to let restaurants reopen to dine-in customers next week, while immediately easing limits on gatherings. Social-distancing rules will still remain. Six territories, which comprises most of the state, will be moving into phase 4 (“improving”) of reopening. Only businesses with close contact, such as gyms, hair salons, casinos and theaters will stay closed.
The governor’s goal is to move into phase 5 (containing) before Independence Day.
In a statement before a press conference, Whitmer stated that, “[W]hile Michiganders are no longer required to stay home, we must all continue to be smart and practice social distancing, and encourage those who meet the criteria to get tested for COVID-19.”
