First Female Graduate of Citadel Military College Wins Republican Primary
Nancy Mace is the first female graduate of The Citadel military college, and, yesterday she won her Republican primary. She will then take on Rep. Joe Cunningham in the vulnerable South Carolina 1st district, a district that President Trump carried by 11 points in 2016.
Rollcall reports that, “With 25 percent of precincts reporting, Mace, a state representative, was leading a four-person field with 59 percent of the vote when The Associated Press called the race for the coastal 1st District. Financial consultant Kathy Landing was in second with 26 percent and Bikers for Trump founder Chris Cox was in third with 9 percent. Brad Mole rounded out the field with 6 percent.”
Mace had been endorsed by Club for Growth, while the House Freedom Fund and Right Women PAC supported Landing.
In a statement issued after Mace’s win, the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with the House GOP, said that “Joe Cunningham is a phony who pretends to be a moderate while rubber stamping the Democrats’ ever-increasingly dangerous and extreme agenda.”
Cunningham won in 2018 by 2 points in an inarguably terrible year for the GOP, and is the first Democrat to hold it in 40 years. If there is any seat to flip back in order to flip the House, it’s this one.
