On Monday, Fox’s Peter Doocy pressed White House press secretary Jen Psaki on when the pipeline workers laid off because of Joe Biden’s decision to kill the Keystone Pipeline will be getting green jobs. Some of these men have already been laid off because of Biden’s decision and since they’ve been promised green jobs to transition to, it seems like a fair question.
Peter Doocy asked,
When is it that the Biden administration is going to let the thousands of fossil fuel industry workers, whether it’s pipeline workers or construction workers, who are either out of work or will soon be out of work because of a Biden [executive order], when it is and where it is that they can go for their green job? …But there are people living paycheck to paycheck. There are people out of jobs once the Keystone pipeline stopped construction. It’s been 12 days since Gina McCarthy and John Kerry were here. It’s been 19 days since that [executive order], so what do those people who need money now — when do they get their green jobs?”
A stunned Psaki noted Biden, “talked about his plans to also put forward a jobs plan in the weeks or months following,” but his executive order is putting people out of work right now. Isn’t it reasonable to say that if Joe Biden is going to take away a man’s job with the promise of a better job to come, that Biden should have the better job ready to go?
The truth is that the Left’s opposition to the Keystone pipeline is completely irrational. There’s very little real-world harm of any type that the project does and a lot of good, but opposing it is a symbolic way to show your support for the environmentalist movement. Unfortunately, that symbolism has real-world consequences. People are out of work because of it, and Americans are paying higher fuel prices. But at least liberals get to feel good about themselves.
