Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is firing back against critics of him flying fifty illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard, a liberal haven that professes love for all (though the love seems to last less than two days).
Liberals have hysterically described DeSantis’ actions as “human trafficking,” which seems to be the latest word the political left has decided to redefine. Oddly, there was no need for this sort of rhetoric when it’s Biden moving illegals throughout the country. Some activist lawyers are even in the process of suing DeSantis on the dubious basis that he "designed and executed a premeditated, fraudulent, and illegal scheme."
But it’s unlikely their stunt is going to work. After Sean Hannity noted that the "this was voluntary. All migrants would put up in hotels, given accommodations. They were fed, they were showered, they were offered haircuts and any other services that were needed," Gov. DeSantis elaborated that:
Not only that, they all signed consent forms to go. And then the vendor that is doing this for Florida provided them with a packet that had a map of Martha's Vineyard. It had the numbers for different services on Martha's Vineyard and then it had numbers for the overall agencies in Massachusetts that handle things involving immigration and refugees.
So it was clearly voluntary and all the other nonsense you're hearing is just not true. And why wouldn't they want to go given where they were?
…
There are jobs available in Martha's Vineyard. There is lodging available in Martha's Vineyard. Had they lived up to up to what they bill themselves out as a sanctuary jurisdiction, they could have absorbed those people without a problem.
But here's the thing. They said they didn't have housing, they said they couldn't accommodate, like, let's just say that's true for a minute. Well, what does that mean For these poor towns in Texas?
What does it mean for these other places across the country that are seeing influx? What does it mean to the small towns that Biden has dumped so many people in? And so I think what we've been able to do is show that this border is a disaster

Watch below:
Gov. DeSantis' office provided proof of the consent forms that he mentioned.
Yesterday we learned that two million illegal aliens have been encountered at the southern border at the U.S. in the 2022 fiscal year for the first time ever, as of August. Fiscal year (FY) 2022 ends September 30, so there’s still another month worth of data to come in. That comes after a new all-time-high for encounters was reached in FY 2021.FL Gov. DeSantis’ office responds to the class action lawsuit that was filed in Massachusetts: “The immigrants were homeless, hungry, and abandoned – and these activists didn’t care about them then.”

As I noted elsewhere, while it is impossible to know for sure the exact number who successfully enter the U.S. illegally, apprehensions and arrests are often used as a proxy for successful border crossings. One study published in 2013 by the Council of Foreign Relations estimated the relationship to be roughly one successful crossing for one apprehension, which would imply over 2 million illegals have successfully crossed the border in FY 2022.
Where will they all go? Last week press secretary Karine Jean-Piere said that they “deserve better than being left in D.C. or Martha’s Vineyard” - and it’ll be interesting to see what they do find to be an acceptable alternative.
Despite all of this, the Biden administration has yet to acknowledge that there's a crisis at the southern border.
