America is suffering a violent crime wave, with homicides up nearly 40% last year alone in major cities (and 30% nationwide), and showing no track of slowing down this year.

That came amid the backdrop of the “defund the police” movement having successes in countless major cities (some of which have begun quietly restoring funding to police this year after realizing how terrible of an idea defunding was).

Minneapolis has become the de-facto home of the “defund” movement, as it kicked off there following the death of George Floyd, and their city council defunded police by “shifting” $8 million in police funding during what was the city’s second deadliest year in their history. Homicides from January 1st to July 1st this year in Minneapolis are up another 34% compared to the same time last year.

And in response to that violence, Ilhan Omar is blaming the cops. “What we must also recognize is that the reduction in policing currently in our city and the lawlessness that is happening is due to two things,” she began saying in a statement that almost sounded like she was about to denounce defunding police. But of course, that’s not where she was going with that: “…the police have chosen to not fulfill their oath of office and to provide the public safety they are owed to the citizens they serve” she attempted to argue.

It’s truly a spectacular feat of mental gymnastics to watch:
