In a fawning Vogue Magazine cover feature, “Dr.” Jill Biden vowed to keep her elderly, deteriorating husband in the grueling 2024 presidential race. Even members of left-wing corporate media agreed that President Joe Biden needs to step aside after the president mumbled, gaffed, and lied through the entire 90 minutes of last week’s presidential debate. In concerning footage after the debate, Jill could be seen helping a feeble-looking Joe down a single stair off the debate stage. These weren’t good optics and fueled the belief that Jill is forcing her husband to remain president.

The Vogue feature did nothing to dispel these concerns. Despite her struggling husband’s declining mental and physical health and calls from the left for Biden to drop out, Jill told Vogue that she is not willing to relinquish her first lady title. The Biden family “will not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president,” Jill told the Magazine. “We will continue to fight,” she said.

Putting aside Jill’s elder abuse, what is Vogue — a supposed fashion magazine — doing running PR favors for the Bidens? The feature had nothing to do with the first lady’s sense of style. On the cover, she can be seen wearing a rather unremarkable, if not bizarre, long white blazer. In her last Vogue feature, Jill wore a navy and floral dress that looked like it was picked out of the grandma section at Target.

Vogue, like so many artistic-oriented organizations today, is captured and crippled by petty politics and cultural Marxism. Indeed, Jill has appeared 3 times on Vogue’s cover and former First Lady Michelle Obama has been featured eight times. Meanwhile, former First Lady Melania Trump, a literal supermodel and the most fashionable first lady since Jackie Kennedy, was snubbed by Vogue because the magazine’s notoriously left-wing editors hate her husband.

True artists are sensitive to the cultural zeitgeist. Their work is honest and even courageous. The editors at Vogue, however, are deceitful. They praise unremarkable Jill and frumpy Michelle, while ignoring Melania because they are propagandists, not artists.

American artists are slaves to activism. If a Vogue editor dared to report on the first ladies’ fashion senses honestly, they’d be punished by left-wing thought police. Their credibility would be tarnished and their fashion authority would be swiftly revoked.

Controlling artists is a universal aim of authoritarian governments, such as the Soviet Union or Communist China. Oppressive governments always view authentic art as a threat. If a painting, movie, poem, fashion statement, or sculpture does not somehow serve the leftist directorate, it must be destroyed.

There’s a reason modern art and architecture is ugly and anxiety-inducing. As English philosopher and art historian Herbert Read once said “Art is always the index of social vitality.” Our cultural institutions, from the university system to Vogue, are sick because they’ve been shackled by a godless ideology that inherently rejects truth, beauty, and goodness. Jill Biden’s latest Vogue feature isn’t only a sign that the first lady is a power-hungry senior abuser; it's a sign that leftism is killing American art and fashion.
