Jon Stewart was the first post-COVID guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and he spent much of his time talking about the idea that the coronavirus came from a lab in Wuhan, China.
Colbert didn’t buy into the whole idea, but Stewart makes a great (and funny) point. As Fox reports:,
“I think we owe a great debt of gratitude to science because science has, in many ways, helped ease the suffering of this pandemic, which was more than likely caused by science,” Stewart began.
“There’s a chance this was created in a lab,” a cautious Colbert responded. “There’s an investigation.”
“A chance?!” Stewart shot back. “Oh my God, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China, what do we do? Oh, you know, who we could ask, the Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab! That’s just a little too weird, don’t you think?”
Stewart continued: “Then they ask the scientists ‘wait a minute, you work at the Wuhan respiratory coronavirus lab, how did this happen?’ and they’re like, ‘a penguin kissed a turtle?’”
The comedian then stood up from his chair to continue his rant on the matter, issuing a hypothetical parallel to the Hershey’s Chocolate headquarters.
“‘Oh my God, there’s been an outbreak of chocolaty goodness near Hershey, Penn. What do you think happened?’ I don’t know, maybe a steam shovel mated with a cocoa bean,” he said. “Or it’s the f—ing chocolate factory! Maybe that’s it!”
Everyone with half a brain should have ALWAYS known that there was a possibility this came out of that lab. Incidentally, that includes all the people like Anthony Fauci that were publicly saying it couldn’t be the case. They knew they were full of it when they were saying it and so did everyone else that studied this for more than five minutes. People like Fauci just came to the conclusion that it was more likely the virus developed naturally, so they lied to everyone “for their own good.”
That being said, it is entirely possible that the virus came out of the lab or the Wuhan wet market and the reality is that no one other than some scientists and government officials in China know the truth. Those people aren’t talking and unless someone defects or our intelligence agencies overhear something, it’s going to be very difficult to ever get a definitive answer.
