Vice President Kamala Harris made the odd claim that “extreme climate” is one of the root causes of the crisis the Biden administration has created on our southern border. Harris made her comments at a meeting with foundation leaders from the Northern Triangle (El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras).
In part, Harris said:
“We are looking at extensive storm damage because of extreme climate, we’re looking at drought in an area in a region where agriculture is one of the most traditionally important basis for their economy, we’re looking at what’s happening in terms of food scarcity as a result of that and in fact incredible food insecurity, which we used to call hunger, food insecurity.”
Harris also noted that corruption, poverty, violence, and a lack of economic opportunity as causes of people leaving those countries.
Of course, her comments are silly. Only liberals could look at our wide-open borders and declare in a roundabout way that the real problem is global warming. In any case, this whole exercise is, for the most part, a waste of time. Harris wants to fix the climate (Is it broken? Is that even possible?) She also wants us to fix all the non-functional countries in South America. How? Are we going to invade and force them to accept capitalism, freedom, and free markets at the point of a gun? The Democratic Party doesn’t even seem to believe in those principles for Americans anymore.
It’s like smashing holes in the bottom of a boat with a sledgehammer and then having a long discussion about the root causes of the water rushing in. You fix the problem by not smashing any more holes in the boat, patching the holes that are there, and getting rid of the water that has already flowed in. Contrary to what politicians keep saying, if both actually wanted to do it, it’s not particularly difficult to secure our border. Build a wall to funnel illegals away from the easiest places to cross, increase the manpower for ICE to capture anyone coming in, put Trump’s remain in Mexico program back in place, crack down on companies that hire illegal aliens, and change the laws so that anyone who enters the United States illegally, via crossing the border or overstaying a VISA will be punished harshly and never allowed to return.
