Vice President Kamala Harris laughed off a question about visiting America’s southern border as the migrant crisis continues to worsen for the Biden Administration.

From the Washington Examiner:

Vice President Kamala Harris was seen laughing when a reporter asked if she was planning a trip to the border as the Biden administration faces a humanitarian crisis.

“Not today,” Harris responded when asked if she had plans to visit the border while speaking with journalists outside Air Force Two in Florida on Monday.

She then laughed and said, “I have before, and I’m sure I will again.”

President Biden has seen his job approval numbers fall as the crisis on the border deepens, falling below 50% for the first time Monday according to Rasmussen.

Yet the administration has continued to deny that the situation is a crisis, opting instead to refer to it as a “challenge.”

Harris has become the latest administration official to seemingly laugh off the ongoing crisis, a trend that has not escaped GOP critics:

The pushback comes as local leaders in states along the southern border have decried the Biden administration’s immigration policies, demanding more transparency and the activation of forces such as the National Guard to help with the surge.

“The Biden administration has been an abject failure when it comes to ensuring the safety of unaccompanied minors who cross our border,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said. “President Biden’s refusal to address the border crisis is not only enabling criminal actors like human traffickers and smugglers, but it is exposing innocent, unaccompanied children to illness and potentially unsafe living conditions.”

Over 100,000 migrants were encountered at the border in February, a surge brought on by the new administration’s relaxing of Trump-era immigration rules.

The crisis has only deepened in March, most notably with the increase in unaccompanied minors attempting the crossing. Leaked photos show facilities meant to temporary house the minors overflowing with children, many of whom have been forced to sleep on the floor as the administration struggles to play catch up.

But so far Biden seems more concerned with the political optics of the crisis, with the administration banning the press to border facilities that they were typically granted access to under the previous three administrations.

“Denying the press the ability to observe, film, and report on the conditions at the border is not openness or transparency — it is hiding the truth from the American people,” said Sen. Ted Cruz of the move.

Cruz is planning to lead a tour of the border with 13 other Senators, but has requested the administration allow the group to bring reporters for the journey.

“It is not enough for members of the Senate to see what is happening—the American people must see,” Cruz said “That is why I requested that members of the media be allowed to join us. But your administration clearly and emphatically refused to offer press access. This is outrageous and hypocritical.”
