Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta couldn’t help but laugh at other African leaders upset that Donald Trump paused foreign aid (for at least 90 days) while he conducts "programmatic efficiencies and consistency with United States foreign policy."

Kenyatta, who was president from 2013 to 2022, was addressing regional leaders at the East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit, when he called out leaders there for "crying" about Trump's freeze

“I saw some people the other day crying that Trump has removed funding. He is not giving us any more money," he said, asking, "Why are you crying? It is not your government; it is not your country. He has no reason to give you anything. You don't pay taxes in America. He's appealing to his people."

He added that Trump's move was a "wake-up call" for African leaders to reflect and consider: "Okay, what are we going to do to help ourselves?" He said it would be better for them to manage their funds better, instead of relying on a aid, a large percent of which is lost to crime and corruption.
