House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is publicly promising to strip Ilhan Omar of her Committee Assignments if the GOP takes back the House in 2022. McCarthy has already called for Omar to lose her Committee Assignments, but it seems highly unlikely that enough Democrats would go along with that to make it happen.
With that in mind, during a Fox News interview, McCarthy noted Ilhan Omar would be stripped of her Foreign Affairs Committee slot if the GOP takes back Congress.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy goes after Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN):
“I will promise you this: If we are fortunate enough to have the majority, Omar would not be serving on Foreign Affairs [Committee] or anybody that has an anti-semitic, anti-American view.” pic.twitter.com/aLUGsJfW2t

Omar, who has hade numerous anti-Semitic and anti-American comments, has been widely condemned over her latest controversial remarks comparing the U.S. to terrorist groups.
We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity.
We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.

Even a dozen Democrats stepped up and criticized her for those remarks, although given that Nancy Pelosi has said she doesn’t intend to take any disciplinary action against Omar, it seems unlikely those Democrats would risk the wrath of “the Squad” to vote Omar off of a Committee.
That’s why we will probably only see Omar kicked off the Foreign Affairs Committee if the GOP takes back the House. That being said, McCarthy also has another reason to go after Omar. Democrats broke precedent to strip Marjorie Taylor Greene of her Committees and so the GOP needs to retaliate if they take back over to discourage Democrats from continuing to play that game.
There are two dozen radical Democrats McCarthy could go after, but Omar’s open anti-Semitism and her prominence in the Democratic Party could make her a perfect target for this sort of strategy. It would put the Democrats in a position where they either have to defend someone who has repugnant views or disappoint the most radical elements of their base by refusing to support her. That’s a smart political move.
