On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said he would introduce a motion to remove Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker should she try to push impeachment of President Trump in order to interfere with the confirmation of his potential nominee to the Supreme Court.
According to the Daily Caller, McCarthy told reporters:
“I will make you this one promise, listening to the speaker on television this weekend, if she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the president following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being Speaker. She may think she has a quiver — we do too.
“The president is supposed to move forward and they will. The Senate is supposed to take the action and they will — it’s their constitutional right and they are following through. If Pelosi and House Democrats try to impeach the president, we will take the movement to remove her from speakership.”
This follows a push by House Freedom Caucus members Chip Roy, Jody Hice and Andy Biggs to remove Pelosi from the speakership role immediately. They wrote this week in the Washington Examiner:
“Understanding that the House has no role in appointing or confirming Supreme Court nominees, Pelosi is looking to do what she does best: obstruct. In an effort to undermine the processes laid out in the Constitution and thwart any and all potential progress on Capitol Hill, the speaker wants to push through a partisan impeachment case (on heretofore unknown grounds) in the House in a far-fetched play to jam up the Senate so the upper chamber has no time to confirm whomever Trump nominates to the Supreme Court.
“We know it won’t work, but we also know Pelosi won’t stop using every tool in her arsenal to chip away at the foundations of our democracy in her pursuit to maintain power.”
Roy also told the Daily Caller that “[A]t every turn, Speaker Pelosi has failed to lead the American people. She’s eroded the institution of the House, allowing members 23 out of 435 members of the House to conduct official business through so-called proxy voting. She refuses to work with Republicans, blocking amendments and often bypassing the committee process.”
Pelosi and the Democrat Party’s continued failed attempts to derail this president only demonstrate the Left’s unwavering and relentless goals at achieving power, no matter the cost. Because power is their only guiding principle.
