When pressed by a reporter on Joe Biden’s false claim that workers’ wages are up on his watch, Karine Jean-Pierre clarified that the administration simply disagrees with reality.
Earlier in the week, Biden boasted “Right now, real wages for the average American worker is higher than it was before the pandemic, with lower wage workers seeing the largest gains. That's Bidenomics.”
This isn’t the case - real wages were $11.15 when lockdown began on March 15, 2022, and were slightly lower at $11.05 on the date of Biden’s tweet.
The week prior, the White House sent out a similar message claiming real wages were up 3.5% on Biden’s watch - and was immediately slapped with a “Community Note” clarifying that they were lying.
As the Community Note clarified, wages are actually down in inflation-adjusted terms by about the same amount the Biden admin claims they’re up.
KJP was asked to weigh in on Biden’s tweet by a reporter who pointed out that his bogus figures had been scrutinized. “Do you welcome that kind of contestation?” the reporter asked.
“We disagree” KJP fired back, before turning away and trying to take another question before the reported interjected “Do you have any…”
“Well we disagree because we’re looking at the data from February of 2021 and what we’ve seen is that wages have gotten stronger and have increased,” KJP replied.
